Co-packing a hemp-derived THC beverage: what to expect

How hemp-derived THC beverage production differs from a soda run: dosing consistency, emulsions, lab testing, labeling inputs, and the questions we ask.

Hemp-derived THC beverages are one of our specialties, and the production questions are different from a standard soft drink. Here is what changes.

Dosing consistency is the whole product

A THC beverage is sold on a milligram claim. The active ingredient is oil-based and does not dissolve in water, so it must be delivered as an emulsion that stays uniform through batching, filling, and shelf life. Consistent dosing depends on the emulsion supplier, mixing method, and the order of addition. We validate homogeneity during pilot runs, not on the first commercial batch.

Testing is coordinated, not optional

Potency and contaminant testing happens at the finished-product stage, and the panels vary by the states you sell into. We coordinate sampling and chain of custody with third-party labs. Build lab turnaround into your launch timeline.

Labeling inputs

The co-packer does not write your label, but it does supply facts that go on it: lot code format, fill volume, and process details. Bring your regulatory advisor into the packaging conversation early so artwork does not need a second print run.

Questions we will ask you

  • Which emulsion or distillate supplier, and is the certificate of analysis current?
  • Target milligrams per can, and the acceptable tolerance?
  • Which states are you selling into?
  • Do you need tunnel pasteurization for the base formula?

If you have answers to most of these, you are ready to start a project.
